Mary Fivey
Mary Fivey is a contemporary painter and art coach based in Worthing, West Sussex.
Originally hailing from Enniskillen in Ireland, her work is deeply rooted in the themes of impermanence and the evolving landscape, often capturing the transient beauty of the natural world. Since moving to the coast, Mary has developed a fascination with the local landscape, particularly the beach at Worthing. Her oil paintings often focus on light, reflections and the shifting tides, with low tide being a favourite subject for her.
Mary continues to create one-of -a-kind works from her Worthing studio, driven by curiosity about both the visible world and the emotional landscapes beneath its surface.
She primarily works with oil though her portfolio also includes ink drawings and
charcoal sketches. Her style ranges from detailed impressionism to bold, atmospheric abstractions.
Mary’s oil paintings display the continual theme of impermanence: A central philosophy in Mary’s work. The idea that “nothing stays forever”. This is reflected in her studies of changing skies and seasonal shifts.
